Photo quality / Not all photos are perfect. Grainy photos or photos with motion blare are generally not a problem, but such photos are not always suitable for a whole/half page, especially in large format photobooks. I check every photo for quality and resolution to decide on suitable sizing and placement on the page. Chronology / Where suitable, I place photos in chronological order (using photos' metadata) so that the photobook reflects the order of happenings in your holiday or wedding. Photo count / Less is more - but how many photos can be collaged on a page depends on the photo quality. To balance the printing costs with the photobook content, I'm compromising on placing several photos on one page, and only the very best and unique photos are dedicated a whole/half page (given they have sufficient resolution). Design / The choice of colour schemes and layout is based on the topic of the photos - more subtle and delicate for wedding, more playful and colorful for children, panoramic and natural colours for nature. I choose background colours so that they help the photos to pop up and at the same time work harmonically with the photo content and the overall design. Layout / I like giving the photos maximum space, using rather "tight" layouts, minimizing margins and gaps. However, I do use them where the photos would otherwise be disturbing to each other. Sometimes I choose to overlap photos or slightly tilt them to break the order or symmetry. Features / It's tempting to add various features such as clip-arts, shaped vignettes, frames etc., or backgrounds with patterns. I use these sporadically. Simply because they steal attention from the photos and tend to spoil the page's harmony, making it overly busy or even distasteful.
