Family photoshoot
INFORMATION & RECOMENDATION

Thank you for choosing me as your family photographer for you and your family. I’m truly honored and greatly appreciate it. I'm looking forward to spending a creative and enjoyable time with you all. Before we meet for the photoshoot, I’d like you to read the following information and recommendations.

THE PHOTOSHOOT

My photoshoots are relaxed, playful, and focused on genuine connection rather than perfect poses. I work in a lifestyle style with a subtle documentary touch, capturing the interactions, emotions, and little moments that make your family unique.

Throughout the session, I encourage natural interactions such as talking, cuddling, holding hands, playing, laughing, and simply spending time together. Rather than constantly asking everyone to stand still and smile at the camera, I aim to create images that feel authentic and full of life.

Of course, I will guide you along the way. I may suggest where to stand, how to position your hands, or where to look to create flattering and visually balanced images. Sometimes I will ask you to look at the camera, and other times I will ask you to focus on each other instead.

Think of the photoshoot as a family activity rather than a performance. The more relaxed you are, the more natural the photographs will feel.

The session typically lasts 1–1.5 hours. During that time, I will capture a mixture of family portraits, individual portraits, sibling photographs, parent portraits, candid moments, details, movement, and scenery. Depending on the location, weather, and light, we may move between different spots to make the most of the surroundings.

YOUNGER CHILDREN

As a mother of two young children myself, I know that children rarely follow a script — and that's perfectly okay.

Some children are shy around new people. Others are full of energy, curious, silly, or constantly on the move. All of these behaviours are completely normal and welcome during my sessions. In fact, some of the most meaningful photographs happen in those unscripted moments.

Your attitude often influences how your children experience the session. If you stay relaxed and positive, they are more likely to do the same. Try not to worry if they are not looking at the camera, sitting still, or smiling on command. My goal is not perfection—it's connection.

It can help to tell your children about the photoshoot beforehand. Explain that you'll be spending some time together outdoors, playing, exploring, and creating photos that the family can enjoy for years to come. This often helps children feel more comfortable and involved.

If your children lose interest, become restless, or need a break, that's completely fine. We can pause for snacks, drinks, cuddles, nappy changes, or simply take a few minutes of downtime.

Play is often the best way to reconnect with children during a session. Running, tickling, lifting, swinging, playing aeroplane, telling jokes, or making funny faces frequently creates both genuine smiles and wonderful photo opportunities.

CLOTHING

The clothes you choose become part of the visual story of your photographs. My recommendation is simple: wear clothes that feel comfortable, fit well, and reflect your personality.

Because my sessions often involve movement and interaction, choose clothing and footwear that allow you to move freely.

I generally recommend avoiding clothing with large logos, bold graphics, prominent lettering, or neon colours, as these can draw attention away from the people in the photographs. Simple, timeless clothing often works best.

Coordinating colours within the family can create a harmonious look, but matching outfits are not necessary. Soft, earthy tones tend to photograph beautifully in most environments.

As a general guideline:

Warm tones work especially well during autumn.

Blues and neutral tones complement coastal, mountain, and winter landscapes.

Colours that contrast gently with the surroundings often stand out better than colours that blend completely into them.

Please remove watches, hairbands worn on the wrist, phones, keys, and other bulky items from pockets before the session.

If you wear your hair loose, bringing a hairbrush can be helpful, especially on windy days.

WEATHER

Outdoor sessions take place in a variety of weather conditions. Overcast skies often provide beautiful, soft light for photography, so cloudy weather is usually not a problem.

If the forecast predicts heavy rain, strong winds, or conditions that would significantly affect the experience, we can discuss whether postponing the session is the best option.

Please dress according to the weather, especially for younger children. Warm and comfortable children are usually much happier in front of the camera than cold or uncomfortable ones.
